IT’S WHAT’S ON THE INSIDE THAT COUNTS The Butterfly Foundation was founded in August 2002 by Claire Vickery who found many 'gaps' in the public health system for those suffering from eating disorders. The Foundation is a community based charitable organisation that supports eating disorder sufferers and their carers through direct financial relief, advocacy, awareness campaigns, health promotion and early intervention work, professional training in primary and secondary schools to educate young people on how to build positive self esteem through its “Body Think’’ program. Pasty Brown (whose stage name was Junior Drake) once received a compliment for an outfit she was wearing and responded by saying “Darling, it’s not the dress, it’s the girl!’’. She was credited for promoting that it’s what’s on the inside that counts. And that is exactly what The Butterfly Foundation does through helping Australian women develop a positive body image and to support those who suffer from poor self esteem and eating disorders. Junior Drake, which launched in Australia earlier this year, has joined forces with the Foundation and each season will donate a percentage of the profits from the sale of a “butterfly’’ bag. Funds from the partnership with Junior Drake would go towards the Foundation’s education programs, which help young people build a positive body image.
